CollectedMed.com is a free resource. Nobody pays to read our articles, and we intend to keep it that way. Running the site costs money, so we earn revenue through advertising and affiliate links.

This page explains exactly how that works, because you deserve to know how a health website you’re reading pays its bills.

The short version

We make money from ads displayed on our pages and from commissions when readers buy products through links in our articles. Advertisers and merchants do not decide what we write, and they never see or influence our editorial process. Anything we recommend, we recommend because we think it’s the best answer to the question — not because it pays more.

Display advertising

We display ads supplied by third-party advertising networks. These networks decide which ads appear based on their own systems and, where you’ve consented, on your browsing behaviour.

A few things worth understanding:

  • We do not choose the individual ads. We select the network, not the advertiser. An ad appearing on our site is not an endorsement of that product or company.
  • Ads are not editorial. If an ad appears beside an article, there is no relationship between the two beyond coincidence and automated placement.
  • Health ads deserve extra scepticism. Advertising networks serve supplement, clinic and treatment ads that we have not reviewed and do not vouch for. Apply the same caution you would to any advertisement, and speak to a clinician before acting on health claims made in one.

We block advertising categories where we can, but we do not have full control over what networks serve.

Affiliate links

Some of our articles contain affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission from the merchant.

This never costs you anything extra. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go to the merchant directly.

We participate in affiliate programs including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We may participate in other affiliate programs as the site grows.

How affiliate links affect what we write — and what they don’t

This is the part that matters most on a health site, so we’ll be specific.

What commissions do not do:

  • They do not determine whether a product gets a positive or negative mention
  • They do not decide which topics we cover
  • They do not buy a place in a recommendation list
  • They do not stop us pointing out that a product is unnecessary, overpriced, or unsupported by evidence

What we will not do, at any price:

  • Recommend a supplement, device or treatment because it pays a commission rather than because the evidence supports it
  • Present a product as a substitute for medical care
  • Overstate what a product can do for your health
  • Accept payment for a favourable review or a specific ranking

If the honest answer to a question is “you don’t need to buy anything,” that’s what the article will say — even when there’s a commission sitting on the alternative.

Sponsored content

If we ever publish content that is paid for, produced in partnership with a brand, or based on a product provided free of charge, that article will say so clearly at the top. You will not have to hunt for the disclosure.

At present, we do not publish sponsored content.

Products we mention

We do not manufacture, sell, ship or support any product mentioned on this site. Questions about an order, a return or a product defect need to go to the merchant, not to us.

We also cannot tell you whether a product is right for your health situation. That question belongs with a pharmacist or clinician who knows your history and your medications — particularly for supplements, which can interact with prescription drugs.

Our commitment

Advertising revenue makes free health information possible. It should never make that information worse.

If you ever read something on CollectedMed that seems shaped by commercial interest rather than evidence, we want to hear about it. Email contact@collectedmed.com and tell us which article and what looked off. We take that seriously.

Legal basis for this disclosure

This page exists to comply with the US Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements and testimonials, which requires clear disclosure of material connections between publishers and the products they mention, and with similar rules in other jurisdictions.
